Have I mentioned the water and beaches here are stunning? Well they are. When we stopped at Horseshoe Bay I even walked on the beach and into the water, up to my knees. Gosh it was warm and clear. And the sand on the beach is like powdered sugar. So nice!!!
And this island is clean with virtually no litter. Clearly the people respect their island.
Snort thought he might try his hand at paddle boarding. They didn't have a life vest in his size, however.

Going to Horseshoe Bay and the Pink Sand Beach
Continuing on our day around the island, we made our way from St. George back towards Hamilton via the South Road and Horseshoe Bay, where there are pink sand beaches.
The white roofs that are so prevalent on the island are carved in such a way as to efficiently catch the rainwater and deposit it into cisterns at each home. Annual rainfall is about 60 inches, therefore sometimes on the scarce side.
The drink you see is the famous Swizzle. It's made of light and dark rums, orange and pineapple juice, grenadine and bitters. I was not a fan....
Finally, the most beautiful things no here on this island, other than the super super nice people, are the views of the water and the beaches. Absolutely pristine!!

St. George, Bermuda
So, here's some more photos of St. George. The town crier was a hoot AND he played the bagpipes! He entertained those of us who admitted to being cruise ship passengers by playing My Heart Will Go On on his pipes. Bahahahaha. Funny guy, indeed
The church is St. Peter's and was founded in the early 1600's. It's got beautiful wood inside and a very old graveyard in the back. The image of the woman engraved on our silver dollar coin is a woman named Mary who died here on the island on her way back home to America.
We ate a lunch of fish and chips at a nice restaurant on the water. Snort approved.

Twizy day Bermuda
As noted earlier, we rented this ah-dorable little vehicle called a Twizy. It's all electric and can travel a distance of up to 50 miles on a single charge. There are several spots on the island where you can pull in and plug in. When we got to St. George we did just that even though we weren't yet at a half tank (as it were). We wandered around the town which was founded in 1609 and is a UNESCO site. We also decided to have lunch there.
The statue is of George Somerset the true founder of Bermuda, even though a Spanish sailor named Bermudez first discovered the island. He found it absolutely not to his liking and went elsewhere. Perhaps the island should really be named Somerset. At least old George got a town named after him, if not the whole island.

Picturesque views in Bermuda
We rented a Twizy car today and drove around the island. Well, not the whole island because we ran out of time but we saw most of it. We went out to St. George which is at the northern point of the island. Bermuda is only 21 miles long and about 5 miles across. However it is sort of shaped like a fish hook so there's lots of water in the middle!
These pics are some scenery shots - David's Lighthouse and views from the south shore.

Sail In to Bermuda
A short 1 1/2 day's sail from Boston, lies the beautiful island of Bermuda. It is also the tip of the Bermuda Triangle.
We are here for 3 nights and docked right in town in Hamilton. Tomorrow I have a special tour planned. Mum's the word until then! On Wednesday we're going to see the Crystal Caves and the turtles at the aquarium.
I'm still having trouble posting pictures so until then I may make multiple posts just to load photos.
