Punta Del Este, Uruguay

Punta Del Este is a very nice seaside upscale resort town in Uruguay.  It has about 10,000 year round residents but of course vacation tourists and the like certainly makes the area busier.  It was founded in 1907 and is often called the Pearl of the Atlantic, or the Monaco of the South, among other things.

I found it to be a charming area to visit and could easily book an Air BnB or something similar for a week or two to enjoy the beaches and the easygoing atmosphere.  The weather is pleasant all year long.

There's a nice mix of colonial and modern architecture, as well as La Mano, or The Hand, a unique piece of sculpture in the sand at the beach on the Atlantic side of city.  It is supposed to represent man being born from the earth.  It makes for a nice photo op, in any regard, and is now considered a well known icon of Uruguay.

I loved this curved piece of sidewalk near an intersection.

Along our walk from the ship to see The Hand, we passed by a photography exhibit.  This picture below was very striking and sad.  This is a piece of plastic caught up by this sea bird.  We humans are such lousy keepers of our planet.

Who knew there was more than one World Trade Center??

There was a monument building in town, and I climbed up the circular staircase to get a better view of the city.

This was the monument building, mentioned above.

This was our planned walking route from the ship's tender pier.

The Hand!!!

Snort came along for the chance to see it too.

After our walk, we returned to the marina and had a lunch of weird pizza and beer, then I became obsessed with the humongous sea lions by the fish vendors.....

View from the ship.

Da boat!!!

Bacon and eggs pizza.  It was good, even though it looks kind of gross.

Aren't these lions the cutest?

Since it was me, Patty and Andrea today, Andrea and I had a beer named Patricia, to honor Patty.

This is a crazy building.  I could swear these are pools up there!

Yes, I was obsessed with these guys!!

Beggars looking for leftover fish..............and by beggars, I mean the lions.
