Antarctica Day 1

if Ushuaia is the end of the world, then Antarctica must be at the bottom of the world. This is a “beyond words” kind of place. We crossed the Drake Passage to get here so it’s another place entirely.

Beauty, harshness, splendor, awe, dazzling, cold, forbidding, mesmerizing, intoxicating......these are all inadequate words to try to describe this otherworldly place.

First view of Antarctica at sunrise 5:00 AM

Circled area in red, above, is the area we’re sailing in and around

All of the pictures below are from the day spent in Paradise Bay.  We saw seals, birds, whales, penguins, the Argentinian Station, mountains, icebergs, you name it, we saw it.

These penguins had their very own swimming pool

This reddish green on the walls of this rock is algae

We've got a whale breach!

Argentina station

Penguins at the Chilean station

I just love the blue

A lone sailboat, far from home

Don't let the sunny sky fool you, it is COLD out here!!
